LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP -- Quintessential grunge-rock pioneer Pearl Jam will celebrate its 20th anniversary Labor Day weekend at Alpine Valley Music Theatre. The show will kick off the band's PJ20 tour, that will be followed by a ten-date Canadian Tour. Shows begin at noon Sept. 3-4, 2011. Parking lots open at 9 a.m. Saturday, but not until 11 a.m. Sunday, according to Alpine Valley's Facebook page. Road construction is under way on I-43 between Elkhorn and the Waukesha County line in both directions. Additionally, the Highway D bridge is being replaced. In addition to the Alpine Valley shows, the Walworth County Fair is taking place during this same time. Both events are located just off of I-43. Attendance for the two Alpine Valley Music Theatre shows is estimated at more than 20,000 patrons each day. The interstate leading to and from the concert venue/fairgrounds will be down to one lane in several locations on the interstate. Local residents and Walworth County visitors who are not attending the concerts/fair are strongly encouraged to stay off the interstate and use alternate routes. The Highway D bridge West of Alpine Valley is completely closed to traffic this weekend. Those coming from the East on Highway D will not be affected by this closure. Concert and fair attendees should expect significant traffic delays leading to and from the venues. Please give yourself extra time regarding arrival to and from the venues. Stay alert for rapidly changing traffic patterns and vehicles slowing or stopping. Patience and courtesy for you and other drivers is appreciated by the Sheriff's Office. Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies and troopers from Wisconsin State Patrol will be monitoring traffic patterns and enforcing all laws related to road construction.
