WHITEWATER — Studio 84, a non-profit community art studio located at 121 W. Center St in Whitewater, celebrates October as Art and Disability Awareness Month and has coordinated several events through out the city. A reception will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 where a premiere performance written by local playwright, actor and co-owner of Royal Oak Productions, Karen McCulloch, will be performed at 3 p.m., during the reception. The performance piece, “I Have a Voice,” will reflect both the challenges and triumphs people with disabilities experience. Incorporating music, dance, visual arts and poetry, the piece will lead the viewer through these struggles and challenges that eventually allows us to see the beauty of the person inside. The exhibit, “A Celebration of Abilities,” at Studio 84’s art gallery will be works of art from all over the state. The exhibit runs through 28. Members show The annual Whitewater Arts Alliance Members Show will be held at the Whitewater Cultural Arts Center, 402 West Main Street, from Thursday, Nov. 3 to Sunday, Dec. 11. An opening reception will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5. The exhibit is free of charge and open to anyone interested in the visual and sculptural arts. The Members Show exhibits both art and craft pieces by Whitewater Arts Alliance members in any 2-D or 3-D medium completed during 2011. The Alliance encourages each artist or craft-person to submit two pieces. If there is space, a third piece from each artist or craft-person may be exhibited. Show visitors will vote for their favorite pieces, and the winning piece will be photographed for the 2012 poster. The four runners-up will be photographed to be made into note cards. The viewer’s choice awards will be announced during a reception on Sunday, Dec. 11.
