LINN TOWNSHIP -- Dive team members pulled the body of a missing Sugar Creek man from his submerged car in Geneva Lake early Thursday afternoon, but how he ended up there remains a mystery.

Missing manThe body of Richard J. Coogan, 76, of Sugar Creek Township was recovered after his white 2003 Cadillac Seville was discovered submerged in the water off the boat launch at the end of Hillside Road in Linn Township.

The search ended a county-wide hunt for the car involving sheriff's debuties, police and highway department crews from a variety of agencies.

The Linn Township Fire Department called in help from the Walworth County Dive team along with numerous other agencies when the vehicle was found.

Coogan was first reported missing Wednesday afternoon after he failed to return home from an appointment in Delavan. Police learned he had never arrived at his appointment and issued a news release early Thursday.

A sheriff's office news release says he has memory problems, although hasn't been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
